i fit to my freelander,

i have the chance of 4 part worn 255 / 65 /16 £100 the four, to my knowlage only done a couple of hundred miles , he changed them to MT style, these are AT style.

i don't want to part with my well earned unless i know they will fit, i also know that the speedo will be out , but i use my sat nav as this is more accurate.

well spotted this would help......

215/65/16 standard allloy wheels .

like i said i am not to botherd about the speedo being out as i use the sat nav..

I have ran 205/80/16s without any problem...these are within mm of radius/diameter of the 255/65/16s (see car bibles for calculator Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2 )

Problems I would imagine could be fouling against suspension especially if in mud and when turning against front wheel arches due to extra witdth...suck it and see & let us know how it goes
 
Should go on ok - will be 20mm (2cm wider each side).

I had 215/65 R16's on my freelander and there was about an inch or so between the tyre wall and shock absorber.

235/65 17 have been fitted by american freelander owners. I found a site ages ago by searching in google.

I too use my sat nav - at indicated 70mph, sat nav indicates 64/65MPh. I was going to try 205/80 R16 to see if this made it more accurate.

I have always put larger tyres on my previous cars - went from 175/70 R14 up to 205/50 R16. I have never rubbed a tyre on a shock absorber and some of mine have been mm away!!

Can you try one tyre with say the spare??
 
205/80/16s are bobon with sat nav....if tyre is mm away on most motors it is fine...on any 4x4 the likelyhood is that at some time it will go off road and its when you start yo get a build up of crud that you will find problems...

Can you try a tyre with spare?? Only if you want to risk fooking diffs/gearboxes etc ok for very short distance only
 
Similarly, I'd like to fit some more A T type tyres to my Freelander without going to the expense of replacing the basic 15" rims. The present rubber is 195 / 80 R15, going from the CarBible site the 205 / 75 or 215 / 75 would both be OK. I have limited my choice (I think :) ) it to the Grabber AT2 (good write ups elsewhere) or the brilliant BFG's. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of fitting these slightly wider tyres to the standard 15" rim.

i run mine on 215/75/15 bridgestone dueller MT. they are a bit noisy on the road. actually thats a lie, they are very noisy between 30 and 50 mph but quieten down at motorway speeds. have not yet had a go with them off road,going to try that one out at the lro show next month.
i'm not sure if these wider tyres will go on a standard freelander but they fit ok on mine which has a 2" lift.
