and it broke down on the return leg of its first long(ish) journey!

It leaks on the driveway and rattles like a load of old nuts and bolts in a tin can

It's my first ever Land Rover and I know nothing about car mechanics but i've always wanted to learn, seems like i made the right choice of vehicle to learn some new skills!

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this forum, it's very reasuring to have so much information available, I've replaced the water pump, radiator, reverse flushed the system and replaced the rusted battery tray with a baking tray from the kitchen :)

Cheers all

Hi.
What year? What motor?
It "broke down"? What happened?
It starts OK but runs rough? Levels? Smoke? Anything?!

It's got to be said that you Land Rover owners have a good sense of humour!

It was the water pump that went, first noticed the power steering going, then a few minutes later the battery light went on and we were steaming - For once i'm glad i'd paid for recovery, 'I'm finally getting my monies worth' i thought - every cloud has it's sliver lining eh.
I'm keeping an extra thick sleeping bag left in the back; was glad to have a good 4g connection for once to while away the hours waiting for the lift home...
Oh and to answer your q's Vinlander, it's a 94 Disco, 300tdi, fixed it myself after reading plenty and watching the Land Rover Toolbox vids and a good Rimmer one ;)

Got to replace the ignition barrel and identify the other 'issues'...
