Get a knocking sound when coming to a halt at traffic lights IF I have the clutch out and gearbox into neutral (when coasting to a halt).
With the clutch in it doesn't do it.

Just wondering if this is a prelude to a greater problem, or if it's just a tweaky, glitchy minor thing I need to stop worrying about.

The knocking sounds like it's coming from the transfer box / underneath my seat.
I've recently had some work done on the handbrake (replacing the cable)

Does the gearbox have to be in neutral or does it happen if you just disengage the clutch?

Has to be in neutral, while clutch is disengaged AFAIR.
Haven't had it sounding while in gear whatsoever...
