I have to get this off my chest: had my good ole D1 prepared for CT (MOT here). It's 30 years old now, but I knew about any rust, brakes, lights all as it should work. But I use a local garage to go to the MOT for me because these "experts" would love to give me problems just because I'm a foreigner. So, the guy at the MOT was so irritated that he could not really find anything, that he had rummaged around in the fuse box so stupidly ruined a ralay of the flasher and on top of that caused a leakage current on a cable. So I came to my "Landy Zone" and in 2 minutes I had found the fault of the flasher and the leakage current.
When I think of all the things you have to deal with in the UK, with all the more complicated conditions and all this daily noise about virus, Putin, clowning street parties, socially you are better connected than we are here in France where solidarity is always invoked so much. Thank you for this clear website without a lot of blah blah.

Hi mate!
Did you go to the CT with the mechanic guy, or did you leave him to take it?
Sadly I feel this is likely to be a problem with the CT tester being Parisian more than anything else!
Where we live, in the Tarn, (when Brexit feckin allows us to) we find the mécanos to be very sympathetic, but then we ain't Parigos, our Parisian friends in the village, who are actually nothing like the typical Parigo, get worse treatment than we do!
But then it could just be one sh!t of a person.
Maybe consider taking it elsewhere for the next CT, like St Tropez!:D:D:D
But at least it was an easy fix and it would have passed on re-presentation.
You're right, the UK is a sh!thole at the moment. We are considering getting out Cartes de Séjour and spending more time over there.
Currently fighting to get long stay visas, interview in Wandsworth on Thursday. (Crossed fingers and toes):(:(:(

Mate, I get this many times at businesses. As soon as they hear my American accent, I get hit with a 75% Yank Tax as they start daydreaming of their holiday trips to Benidorm from the money they'll screw out of me.

Most recent example:
me: Hello. How much for a tune up on a bike?
Bike Dealer (BD): (long pause) £320?
me: Wow! That's is quite a bit of dosh as you don't know what kind of bike I have.
BD: Right. Er...What brand is it?
me: Kona. Full suspension
BD: (long pause) £450 + VAT?
me: Good day.*walks out

Two weeks later I ask my neighbor to call the shop on my behalf:
Darren: How much for a mountain bike choon up mate?
Bike Dealer (BD): £90 for any model bike. Bring cash and I can work you a deal.
Darren: Bril. We are on our way.
;)

yes I sent the poor mechanic from our village garage there for CT. He had not seen what the CT-guy made for mischief... ;-)
You're right, the garage has nice people, but there is just the rumor here in almost every garage that these CT people should get every 30 year old car off the traffic because we are suppose to become all happy with electric cars ...

There is a good LR page here in English that is on Facebook and has quite a few good tips, also for those who want to go on vacation. it is called "French Land Rover owners".

And here this, there are many infos
https://france-visas.gouv.fr/documents/66002/47559093/se_soigner_en_france_en_bd.pdf
Much more legal info on another Facebook page called "Strictly Legal France", all in English with enough links to lawyers with their specialization.

Don't!
Sure, there are a few weirdos, but they're not the majority. If I were British, I would be ashamed of the leading media. They are really responsible for the manipulation. But not the person trying to make a living and then even paying taxes so crooks can act a cream-raiser... I hope a lot of innovation will come up again from the Midlands.

Thanks mate, hugely useful.
We just heard today that our 6 month visas are ready for collection, so very pleased it has actually gone smoothly and quickly.;)
Re getting old cars off the roads, failing them won't do that will it? Although I wouldn't put it past them to try it on. They have had various schemes to give you a grant for your old diesel if you buy a new car as far as I remember, not that I ever will!
