Young mate ran a 90 insurance was 200 a month well thats what he told me and I got the feeling its was more than that!
When he turned 21/22 he was over the moon that it dropped to 100 a month, 1200 kin quid to insure a piece of crap land rover:D

Quite importantly they arent that good in a crash either and i dont mean for the car but the occupants.

I am looking to buy the Landy for about £4500

The other obvious thing regarding a vehicle in that price bracket, is what engine are you going to be getting? An Ex MOD may well have the 2.5NA and even come with no power steering if my recollection of when I was looking is correct. Make sure you have a list of what spec it should be meeting including options for the base vehicle.

Cheers

Great choice!

As mentioned, whenever you're ready do feel free to contact me and I'll see what we can do. More than happy to help :)

Don't go for an ex mod I was looking at it before I got my 90 and frankly they're a rip off from Withams etc even the auctions. For any decent example be far more than 4500. Even the crash damaged ones go for that and the 90s are alot more ex mod than the 110s that are alot more numerous. Also most of the mod ones are N/A engines and high ratio boxes so very slow and clunky and extra low 1st crawl gear. No power steering and crap heat. 300tdi from ex mod go for like 8k+
If I was you I'd use fleabay. Might be worth buying a n/a or TD and a disci and converting since doing alot of other bits too. Gumtree is crap for defenders most are fake. Ebay can get a decent deal though. If you do buy a hardtop to convert I saw someone do a really nice rear door by trimming a hardtop door down so it was same height as tub rarther than a drop down like the pickups. Check the seat listing on the v5 or you may come foul of insurance. Mine was old and didn't specify the number of seats but if it has say 3 listed and you put in 7 I don't know if you'd be covered.
How much did rip off insurers quote?
