Hi v8jon, how do you get on with mot with disco axles on? How much wider than normal 11a are they?

Mot not a problem,it went straight through, infact the brakes were so good it jumped out of the rollers!
The axles are about 3" wider each side so if you have offset rims like modulars on they will stick out further than the body

If you don't want to fit defender arches you can fit standard series swb rims which will just fit nicely in line with the series body.

Thanks for your reply, I have picked up td5 axles and the are 10" wider than my original ones so hoping to put alloys on and bring them back in a little and currently looking at strenghtening them a bit, I was a bit worried about mot.

Not done much over the last week but got a good bit done over the last few days

Got both wings on

Bolted everything back on the wings and did a bit of rewireing

IMG_0313-1.jpg

Plumbed in the triple washer jets, but broke one of the t-pieces so only got 2 jets!

Test fitted the snorkels as the rollcage is now where they used to fit so need to move them

You can see from the pic above that the screen is cracked on the drivers side and at some point it's had a full width glass fitted. I wanted to put it back to a split screen but the bulkhead that was on before was a s3 so the screen frame wouldn't fit the s2 bulkhead. So i took the glass out of the s3 frame, cut the centre divider bit off and fitted it to the s2 frame with the glass ;)

Glass removed

Center piece fitted prior to welding

Welded and glass fitted

And a pic of the front with the screen as it should be

:D :D :D

Hi, can I ask what the tube that passes across on the inside of the windscreen for?

It's to demist the screen,it hasn't got a heater so the pipe runs along the bottom of the window and is plumbed into the heater pipes on the engine.

Went to visit family in yorkshire over the weekend so didn't get much done but while we were there i nipped out to buy some goodies :D

I got on with fitting the snorkels today but it wasn't as simple as just fitting them back in the same position because the rollcage is now where they used to fit :(
I didn't want to put them on the outside of the cage and risk them getting ripped off by trees so i tucked them in behind out of the way.

I cut a new hole in the wing for the flexy pipe to feed into ( im gonna block the old one)

Welded some mountings to the rollcage

did the same at the other side and thats it,all nicely tucked in behind the rollcage

Looks like a nice job :)

How close are the 'new' shock mounts on the axles compared to where the original disco ones were? Just been looking at disco axles on fleabay and they don't look that far off:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=260946648486
(original item is LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 TD5 COMPLETE PAIR OF AXLES | eBay if the other link doesn't play)

Do you reckon you could re-use the original shock mounts using your method if you were to do it again?

It would have been ideal to use the original shock mounts on the disco axle as the ones i made are in the same position,u unfortunately i cut them off when i fitted the axle because i didn't need them at the time!

hell of a machine youve got there matey and plenty of inspiration for us first time landy restorers somehow someday ill have one as serious looking as yours but at the moment ill just be happy with a tidy runner :D:D:D:D:D

Just joined the forum, because I enjoyed your rebuild thread. Don't suppose you were driving into Goodwick last Sunday afternoon from the St Davids side. What I passed was yellow and very loud !!!
