The L322 has a interlock on the ignition switch that is also linked to the steering lock.

there is a coil around the ignition switch that excites the transponder in the key, if the key repsonds with the correct code, you'll here a click of the interlock solenoid unlocking the ignition barrel to allow it to turn and also a motor whir that is unlocking the steering lock.

I am with the above, you may need to get it on diagnostics to make sure the keys are correctly synced as the immobiliser and steering/ignition lock are all linked.

The L322 is a much much more complex car than the P38 you had at first....

Dealer Diagnostics or full fat Faultmate may help you out and see if there is a hiccup in the system somewhere.

The original battery must have been on its last legs to go flat with the interior lamps on, plus spinning over a big diesel twice in short order, will knacker a tired battery.

the L322 loves battery volts, even more so than the P38...and when jumping....you MUST follow the procedure to the letter!

Saint I think your right about the battery but I did use the auxiliary heater this morning via the remote and that ran for twenty mins or so I think that was the battery killer although it did crank a little bit

To be honest I don't really know where to start so i will have to find someone who can recover it and take it away to be sorted but can't see that being easy as handbrakes on in park and steering lock on as well

Hmmmm....you do need ignition on for diagnostics...not sure if the dealer T4 testbook can still connect somehow with out ignition on, or if the techs no of a work around, as this must happen at sometime....

Have you tried, turning the key in the switch, then back then within 2 seconds turning it again, as I have heard/read somewhere that this will overrie the ignition lock to allow you to turn ignition on, but without being able to start the car as it obviously hasn't received a valid immobiliser code, else the locks would be off!

It could well get you to be able to connect to diagnostics!

Does the car lock and unlock on the key buttons?

I will try the key thing mate and yes the remote buttons work spot on with both remotes and io slider light comes on when armed and off when disarmed

taking into consideration mine is a 2003 vogue so my electrics are probably different to yours, i had same issue about a month ago, steering lock would not release and i couldn't turn key in the ignition. the cause was down to the brake light switch don't ask me how, but it had slid back in its collar so brake lights were on constantly (even with ignition off) this in turn caused me 2 days of checking various other bits, like connections on ignition barrel, lcm unit etc etc before i found the brake light problem by accident. good luck in finding the problem on your car, but goes to show slightest thing on a l322 can cause big issues

Hi guys still no joy this is what ive tried so far

1, Left RR overnight new battery connected tried this morning keys wont turn still
2, Disconnected battery leads touched together for ten mins reconnected to battery with key in ignition
3, Rear brakes lights are not on
4, tried both keys both the same keys wont turn
5, Tried holding key to right position for 20 secs (supposed to unlock steering etc) didn't work on mine
6, taking weight of steering lock don't make no difference

As it stands my options are to get it recovered by landrover and dragged away but its in park and handbrake is on too...

Nice start to RR ownership again I must be the most unlucky ####er on this planet with landrover products

any other ideas before its towed away chaps ??

Get a classic!! ... its something that can be worked on with hammers, screw drivers, socket set, pry bars and a timing light.

I'm really sorry to hear for your repeated woes. Modern cars that realy on electronic modules are getting to be a PITA, you'd think putting a key in a lock and turning it doesnt need electronics.. as dirt and grime and wear increase with age electronics can just fail.

Its a retrograde step to longevity !

Petrol and matches:rolleyes:

RR was recovered today in park/with handbrake on and taken to the local landy independents, just wanted it out my sight....

Me too no news of yet from the place its at but im not expecting any for a while

Someone somewhere don't want me to own a RR for some reason that works at least..

Fingers crossed for you then. I've had nothing but trouble with mine since I bought it in Sept but I'm bearing in there. Don't know whether I'd be brave enough to buy another like you as it seems like a crap shoot owning these things.

Having said that, on the other forums people have major trouble with Discos and Freelanders whereas my ownership of those models where faultless so it must really be luck of the draw. I mean they can't be that bad to own as there's so many on the road!?!?!?

Very true I just seem to get all the bad ones lol

Independent is heading towards the Ignition switch due to it physically not turning they aint stripped it down yet to be fair they have mentioned some cable between the switch and column or possibly the switch itself mine is in the das though not next to gear lever.

After reading online it also appears the steering column is a popular cause of this fault too but it don't state if mine is effected being the later model does anyone know ??

the column aint cheap though circular of £3000 apparently

Rob

There is a couple of cheap fixes I believe for the steering column fault, one by Blackbox solutions and there was also a fix in one of the landrovr mags recently. if you get stuck i'll dig them out

if it's the steering lock not releasing cheapest fix is to drill a hole in the side, there is a how to on the web, then lube it with wd40 or similar
