Yesterday when poking around underneath I saw I had a couple of small slashes in the NS/F tyre, and a bit In between the tread blocks where the carcass is actually starting to rupture! This in on an Insa Turbo Traction Trac, 265/75R16.
Now as I'm a bit broke and can't really afford a pair of the same or a full set of something else, I swapped on a spare set of 205/80R16 event (bfg at lookalikes) and after nearly dropping the car on myself, I went for a drive...
My disco has a +2" terrafirma medium duty lift on it to help with the 265/75's but even with that it felt tiny running on the 205/80's! On the plus side however, it's LOADS quieter, the steering self centres again and there is a slight improvement in acceleration..
Only trouble is it just looks wrong
When did become vain?!
The handling feels similar but I miss the height from the tall tyres, and the clearance that they give will be missed come the winter when the farms turn to clag, but surely I can get the balance back with some tall tyres? Maybe 235/85's will be a better bet?
I hope so, I'm sad now that I've got a teeny rubber polo on each corner
