Hi all like a complete idiot I drove my disco into a rather deep puddle and hydrolocked the engine. After dragging her out of the ditch I turned the engine over without the glow plugs in to get rid of the water. After which she started but very underpowered and chucking lots of white smoke out which smells like unburnt fuel. After driving home she seems to run better but she is still missing slightly and blowing quite a lot of white smoke with a slight knock when under load (sounds and smells like the timing is slightly out)Before I start to take the head off and spend lots of money does anyone have any suggestions of what it could be or would it just be better to replace the engine altogether? Which I don't really want to do as she only has 115000 on the clock :(

Also check the air filter and all inlet pipes .. even if the air filter isn't wet now, check it's not closed up and that the pipes don't have silt in them!

Cheers guys much appreciated shall strip the old girl out on the weekend and give her a good clean and possibly some conrods :)

The piston protrudes 0.95mm past the block deck at tdc if I remember correctly
tappet clearance is 0.20mm
valve lift fore both inlet and exhaust is:9.67mm
cam lift is:
inlet valve:6.81mm
exhaust valve:7.06mm

Also check valve springs to see if there knackered or not
free length(not compressed) 46.28mm
length under load(21kg of compression) 40.30mm
Hope this helps

Just an update stripped everything out today and found that only number 4 con rod was bent and the gasket had blown out of the back of the engine. New conrod for 40 quid and hopefully she will be running sometime next week :)

So my internet diagnosis was right:D:p

not to bad then. What are the bores like, I had to glaze bust mine, as the bores had been washing.

Not too bad there's no scoring/glazing on them they seem to be as they should fingers crossed I'm thinking of throwing a deglazer down the bore and fit some new rings seeing as the piston is out and it did have a bit of abuse lol

fanatic-
Yup u was right and I am greatful haha
