Hi rebuilt my v8 4.0 disco engine about 6 months ago and its just started mis firing, after a day looking over it, it appears that the hydraulic tappets on the left bank are faulty, they seem to be holding the valves open all the time, these were new on rebuild, they do not have any free play just solid so stipped them down, cleaned them and primed them in new oil and now they seem ok, as anybody had a similar problem:(

it shouldnt be necessary as tappet is just piston with hole in it its the speed of operation that stops it moving thus not opening valve ,they should only ever take up any slack unless built faulty

were they britaprt by any chance? Hammy had a bloody nnightmare with two sets of ****part ones and took it to bits many times , put in oem spec ones and no problems after that, never trust britpart!

Found the problem, my oil pump as failed and nackered the engine, mains, crank and big ends gone. oil pressure must of just been enough to keep the oil light off, looking for a 4.0 engine now

Was not getting oil to the rockers, ended up with sump off, placed a container of oil under the pick up stainer and rotated the engine with the started, no oil left the container, took pump off and still it would not pump oil

thing it its hard to see the oil that gets up to the rockers on the rv8 , many people say there is none but its just how they look.

you really need a guage to attach with the engine running , not sure if you will get much pressure on the starter alone.

Mind you if you say the other components are ooked then I guess you must havd had no pressure, sorry to hear it!

I dont sorry , vougese39 (stu) might know and be able to get you a rebuilt engine.
