Hi All!

Now, I've got a bit of a head scratcher, as after finishing quite a few mods I need to tidy the instrument cluster up and there are probably a thousand diffrent ways to do it...

A Discovery 2 box with an m57 3 litre engine and a nissan patrol y61 gearbox.
I was actually thinking of plugging into obd with a hud that has a gps speedometer and I think that's the easiest way? If so, is there anyone who has some experience and could suggest a model/brand?
Or maybe, there are other ways of sorting it out?
What did you do with the instrument cluster?
Many thanks for your opinions!

I have fitted a simple HUD on my Disco. I say "simple" because the only connection to the vehicle is a power feed. The diagnostics socket on the D2 isn't OBDII compatible, it uses LR's own protocols so I was unsure whether it would be able to send reliable data to any external device. It calculates and displays the vehicle speed based on the signals from the GPS satelite system and not a signal from the vehicle.
There is a downside with all of these HUD displays and that is that the windscreen glass isn't reflective enough to work on its own, you do need to put the supplied transparent reflective patch on the inside of the screen, which means that it isn't a true Head Up Display since you don't want to be sticking the plastic patch in your direct line of vision. Mine is fitted in the bottom right hand corner of the screen where the only view which is obstructed is a bit of the bonnet and wing. The MoT garage doesn't seem to mind the location. A good guide might be to fit it so that the display is outside of the arc created by the windscreen wipers.
The normal instrument cluster is left in place and working as it should. I believe that the vehicle must have a working calibrated speedometer/odometer as designed fitted for legal reasons, so the HUD must be considered only as an "Add-on toy", even though in many cases it might even be more accurate than the OEM fitted clock.
I can't comment on the available designs you can get these days, but something like this one is similar to mine:-
