I am trying to replace the ball joints on my car. At the point of trying to remove Hub and drive shaft. Rave states "Release hub from carrier. Remove hub and drive shaft assembly." Mine is not moving at all despite trying to lever it away with a fine chisel. Any tips an hint on how to do this?
I have explained how to do this a few times. Soak the hub joint with Plusgas. Back off the retaining bolts four mm or so. Then with an hammer and punch tap the bolt heads in a diagonal pattern. As the hub moves out resoak and back off the bolts another four or five mm. Keep doing this progressively and it should remove the hub. Clean off all detritis and reassemble with Copaslip.
Thanks Wammers, I thought the hub and the swivel hub were both tapped so never thought of this approach.
