Right, the gear stick wobble is really starting to **** me off. It's about time I pulled my finger out and checked the engine and gearbox mounts, but I'm not certain of how to do it?!
The local garage said to use a crow bar, and gently rock each mount to see if any have "play" in them. But when looking at the top mounts, I'm not sure which bits to stick the crow bar onto??
So how would you check your engine and gearbox mounts???
Cheers, Mick.

Start by checking the lower steady which is connected to the IRD. Use a pice of wood (2x2x30in)as a lever since it does less damage than a crowbar and a further piece to spread the load on to the body to prevent local bending. You will see play in the bushes if there is any significant wear.

gearstick wobble and movement when idling is often caused by the lower tie bar that connects at the rear right of the engine. About £40 or so, simple to replace.

Not had a chance to have a look at them yet. Been looking on google at the location of the lower engine/gearbox/IRD, but abit lost at the minute. I'm going to have a look at the top mounts first, see if any of them are showing signs of leaking, if not just see if they are loose and report back!

Just been out to have a look. I found that the top mount, driverside, had almost no play in it front to back. The top mount, passenger side, has about 1/2-3/4inch movement front to back. The IRD mount has almost no movement at all.
So I'm guessing that the passenger side mount needs replacing. But looking at it, it looks a right pig to change!
