Can just about get a ring spanner on the other side.

Use a strong mole grips on the nut
I don't have any grips big enough to generate enough torque. It was a socket wrench and my leg muscles that got the other side loose. I was thinking maybe a stillson but again I don't have one long enough. Thanks.

I would try the ring spanner before you resort to mole grips etc. I think youd do well to round a nut that size off if the spanners well seated mate

If you have to resort to the grinder, line the fuel tank with some foil and use a really thin cutting disc, you'll zip through that. Maybe just cut one side of the nut off to reduce tension then undo with spanner

I managed to wedge the ring spanner against the chassis and it worked untill the nut rounded off. The small stillson I had together with scaffold pole held the nut till it finally came free. Just got the ones by the towball itself tomorrow.

I done mine last year to get the tank out. A good quality cold chisel, a few skelps with a lump hammer split those nuts no problem. I jammed a cutting of 2mm plate between the tank and the bolt though just in case I missed.

Looks lioke it was quite a job. I am hoping to get a local mobile welder in to do it. Hopefully next time I am off at the end of next week. He charges £30 an hour. I will remove step, fuel tank and exhaust before he comes. I will post some pics when he is finished. Thanks for the link.
I got a kit off ebay with pre laser cut 2mm plates. I had to make some of my own also, but the kit made the job much easier. Think it was about £40. I will look out the details if its any good to you.??

I have a piece of plate I got in case I was going to tackle it myself. As you say I am sure he will have more if needed. He is coming next Thursday. Be glad to get it finished.

It’s worth it though. I took the opportunity to clean up the chassis crossmember in front of the fuel tank when it was out and waxoild it all before I put it back in.
