push it to one side or push both ends in and lift

As above the ends are spring loaded and push inward, after it unclips you then have the Kripton Factor type puzzle of how to get it out as it seems too wide for the car!

If its a 5 door, lower the seat back and bring it out through the rear side door.

You don't need to do that. Release the RHS (looking from the back of the tailgate door), lift up wards slightly releasing the LHS, pull the RHS to the rear and drop this end down the space above the rear interior light. Continue dropping this side down wards (leaving the LHS where it is) then guide the RHS out of the tailgate door. Reverse the procedure to install it.
Works a treat! Eric.

Unless you have a toolbox or similar in the back getting in the way!
I've tried most ways and found mine easiest, but it's probably down to personnel preference.
I normally only remove it if I am folding the seats anyway, and I store it on the floor in front of the back seats, so it has to go one way through the side door anyway.

Ah yes! I see that could be a problem! I usually remove mine when the load area is empty and store it in the garage, then put it back when I have finished. It just goes to show how versatile the Freelander can be.
