im looking to get out all the old coolant from my td5 and put fresh in.
The old stuff that someone put in was blue/green and I'm now looking to put all fresh pink o.a.t in and I'd like to know how I go about taking all the old coolant out that's also in the block.

Can somebody please tell me the best way to drain EVERYTHING so I can put fresh in please.
What's the best procedure ?

It's my understanding that the D2 left the factory with OAT antifreeze installed, OAT does come in in other colours than red.
But if not drain, refill with fresh water, run the engine to circulate, do that three, four or even five times to fully flush the system so all you will only have pure water left in the cooling system is pure water.
That's what I did sixteen years ago to remove LRs green factory stuff and been using OAT ever since. Disconnecting the bottom hose is the quickest way of removing old coolent, not all of it but that's where the flushing procedure comes in.

theres a drain bung on the steel pipe under the rad, if you have an under tray it has a removable cover plate to allow access

If your heater matrix is not gurgling or sounding like Niagara Falls, don’t, whatever you do empty everything. In LR’s infinite wisdom, on the D2 the flow and return are below the top of the matrix.... end result, trapped air you can’t bleed.....

My heater matrix is not gurgling.
What do you mean by don't empty everything ?

I'm going to fill with plain water and let the engine run for 10 minutes to circulate the old fluid that's in the block. Then I'm going to undo the pipe on the radiator to empty it all. I'll do this a few times to make sure that there's only plain water left before I fill up with my coolant.

When you said don't empty everything, what do you mean by that please ?

Sorry - should have been clearer, just know of a few people that have literally drained the whole system then refilled (compared to the flushing you propose). Quite often the draining has been the unintended consequence of a catastrophic failure in the cooling system.... so they have had little choice!

Ahh right. I tried to drain the other day by the drain plug but it didn't work and completely sheared off.
I'm now going to undo the bottom pipe as it's meant to be easier that way. I'm not 100% certain where it's located.

Which pipe are they referring to please mate

Don't worry it's only owners that don't know how to refill the cooling system that have an issue, lucky they now have the internet and forums to help... but then that doesn't help some :D

You and me both. Still what else would I be doing tomorrow if I wasn't fitting a new PS pump, pipes and coolant hoses. They keep you honest [and broke]

You said it. Fan belt tensioner last Wednesday and new brake pads all round and flush brakes / clutch on Sunday. Have a good one! :D
