If they want it that bad enough they'll take it, at least with a tracker of some sort you stand a chance of getting it back

Cant argue with that, the original point I was trying to make was dont post your security info on the world wide web for obvious reasons, well I think its obvious but obviously others dont!

Surely they just then bring the recovery truck to save themselves any hassle!

Would just about get a truck in the street but usually double parked where I live, if they can lift it from out side the house without waking me up then they can have it.
Why would they want it anyway, have to get all the blue paint off everything and the id marks so not an easy one to sell on:)

Nowt stopping them shoving it in a shipping container and selling/driving it abroad with our without your id marks:(

I hear you loud and clear, maybe we could start a thread of here's my security stuff and here's where I'll park it for you, come and get it

True, so disc lock , pedal locks, wheels on full lock and all the other anti theft devices I can think of.
If they lift it and ship it then I'll have to make sure I'm insured so as I can buy another one. No off road accessories on mine or big wheels and tyres so not so difficult to replace with the insurance money.
Not that many lifted onto tow trucks, most are stolen by hot wiring and driving away.

Mines a 19j engine so it will take at least 5 minutes of cranking to start with no glow plugs and that should wake the whole street up and there are enough drips to track it Hansel and Gretel style:D

I personally like trackers, as if your quick enough you will know were its gone to and be able to notify the required landy lovers to pay them a visit.

most trackers are cheap as chips these days

Mines been sat needing some tlc since april... the b**tards haven't been and taken it yet :(

Now its nearly done its time to insure it again :(

Some1 i know had his 300tdi parked between 2 cars and they managed to get it out from between the cars and towed it down the road at 2 am with some sort of home made tow rope... Never to be seen again! So if they want it they will take it. They are scum that make their money that way instead of slogging there arses off all week like the rest of us!

Leave the doors unlocked, without clutchclaw or wheel lock. Just fabricate a locking bar so that you can't move it out of 1st gear low box -with side steps, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to run after it and apprehend the thief.

I spent time in Moscow, and there was a spate of ruffians taking the electric winch controllers (usually mounted on bonnets /facepalm), wrapping the cable over the roof, attaching to the crossmember and winching the car in on itself. This was what they did for fun...

Brand it. Punch the reg in inch tall lettering right in the middle of every panel.. a development of my current 'every panel is dented' theft deterrent..

All the bits I've made, such as bumper and other parts have my initials and/or postcode welded into them .. not always where they'll be seen .. :)

When it's parked it's usually at home all week or month, depending how good the last trip out was .. :) and I then leave the bonnet up with bits off it, or on ramps, or a wheel off and locked away. It's also behind two locked gates and another parked car etc, not that they'd be much good for determined thieves, and I also have other passive locking methods employed too .. :)

It's also usually covered in mud, looks a right state with foliage hanging from the axles, and looks like parts wouldn't be worth selling from it.

I know a lot of the local scrotes too (School caretakers get to hear all the stories) and make a point of stopping, kicking a wheel or something, then finding it hard to start ... or when parked at the shops, get it to develop bad starting and a cloud of smoke on start-up.

Detering them seems a reasonable idea to me before they even think about trying to unlock the doors ... They don't want to clean them, they want to strip and part them out with little effort .. make that effort too much and they might move on. Silly things like odd stickers. I hate stickers, but I've started putting odd ones on, they're unique, I KNOW WHERE THEY ARE with photographic evidence of them all, so any parts might well be recoverable. Even if time is taken to tear them off the adhesive can leave imprints and marks!

OK, some poor sod down the road with a shinier, cleaner, landy might get theirs nicked instead, but he could do similar .. :)

Check out the landywatch forum, some of the land rovers that get nicked are very distinctive indeed.
In my mind if you nick it for parts you want std blue/green/red that way you can sell every last bit, any odd colours would be a no no.

Thought about making the standard ignition barrel a dumy and wiring it to a 12 bore behind the seat, then just leave the keys in it and buy a spare windscreen. :D

crikey are they still in business, same as smartwater I think.

They're just tiny stickers which have all your details on and they run a scanner to identify them. You get hundreds of them which you can hide on every panel. Deters thieves just knowing they won't get all of them
