Hello All!

Very new to Land Rovers and LZ, but more than excited about the new experience!

I'd like to have my green beast's unpainted black bumbers painted in body colour. First of all, is it doable by a seasoned painter? If yes, what should I require from them re the painting process? I only want high-quality and long-lasting finish.

It's a bit like somebody opening your front door and chucking a new puppy in.
 
There is a page on facebook for p38 owners and there was a mention about some stuff to bring back bumbers and other plastics as new .NOW,. its called POLYTROL. you can google it. i have it ordered for myself
 
Use plasticoat, etcher first (this bonds with the plastic) and acts as a primer, then you can spray on to it almost immediately, but dont do it in this cold weather, and you need lots of coats, spray very small amounts, let it flash dry each time, 4 or 5 coats then a lacquer coating to finish, best with the bumpers off the car
 
Penetrating fluid,( like WD50 plus-gas) , then leave for a few hours and spray again, then1/2 hour it should shift or freeze it with a freezer aerosol it shrinks the bolt

Not that excited, haven't heard back for the last week and a half...!!

Any further intel on what bumers are? Is it an alternative lifestyle thing or a RR part?:confused::confused::confused::confused:

If it is the first then painting them must be some sort of fetish?:jaw::jaw::eek::eek:

Ya can't successfully paint the non painted bumpers anyway, no matter what plastic or etch primer you use. They have a slight crinkle finish so the paint job is rubbish, then it peels off some months later. Only the paintable ones are, well, paintable! Suppled in primer finish from LR. So don't do it. And especially don't do it with spray cans, will end up a real mess.
 
It can be done BUT as Alanc says they have a crackle finish that needs sanding off! OR an isolating primer applying first, followed by high build primer until it can de sanded smooth, then painted and lacquered. I'd get the ready smooth primed ones for LR cos that's far too much work for a plastic bumper that's going to get scratched to hell anyway. Yes my Autobiography has painted ones on before I get grief about being a hypocrite and yes I've scratched one
 
I had to repaint my rear bumper due to scratches recently........ Proper 2K paint and decent compressor gives a good enough result in my garage. :)
