Hi all. I have just had a new crossmember and bought some brackets and new mudflaps to go with it. Thought this was going to be easy. But struggling to see how I get my hands to the holes to thread and fasten the brackets to the Xmember. The xmember does not seem to have the gap / space to achieve this. Looked online for a video and found nothing which is surprising. Any help much appreciated. Paul
 
However you fix the brakts to the xmember its well worth putting a few stainless washers between the brkt and the xmember that way no rot can start in there.

Hi Paul. Welcome to the forum.
In my experience I would avoid the rivnuts. Over many years I've replaced them many times. Only to find I've eventually left a mudflap on the road somewhere. When I put a new chassis on mine I used stainless, 6mm nyloc nuts and bolts and washers.

Used a copper wire strand pulled out of some multi-core

Wrapped the wire around a few turns with enough of the bolt sticking past the wire to allow it to drop through the hole. If I was lucky!
Pushed it in to the end of the rear cross member and guided it along. Plonk, went straight in the hole. Took about 15 seconds per bolt. Dead easy.
Had the brackets and mud flaps on in ten minutes after that. :)
