Well after a recent thread if been thinking how to improve my mpg? Is there any mods/tweeks you can do to improve this? As many other people reported better mpg than I am getting. Cheers.

Add 250ml of stroke to every full tank of diesel.

Works a treat on mpg and engine pulls better at low rev's.

Is that 2 stroke oil? Interesting! What sort of improvement would be expected? Sorry I'm bit new to this, only had my 90 7 months now and learning everyday.

Take out any unneeded weight, remove roof racks if not needed, drive smoothly and plan ahead whilst driving (change your speed to match traffic conditions to avoid stop / starts). Check tyre pressures are ok and engine properly serviced.

Yep 2 stroke oil (green, as red goes pink and creates interest).

That and regular servicing, filters and fluids.

Son has 1989 90 TD. It's returning 27mpg ish weekly and we live in the Pennines.

On a run at steady 50mph it will do 30mpg+

Here is the thread where I discovered it on here.

Could probably get more if we took off the 265/75/16's and went to little 205's.

But it would not look as good.

2 Stroke works, it lubes the injector pump and other parts too, use low ash type, have used it in mine from the start and passed MOT emissions tests with apparently very low readings, not bad for 28 year old original motor!

Great info, I'll give it a go. I'm off to get some jubilee clips tomorrow from motosave so I'll pick a bottle up and give it a try. Thank you.

I once had a 110 19J with a stupid great roof rack on it. Taking it off resulted in a 10mph increase in top end and about 10% better fuel consumption.

The first copy of Landrover Owner magazine I bought in 1989 had a letter asking how to improve fuel economy.

Better fuel economy:

1/. Learn how to drive a Landy properly,
2/. Keep everything well maintained, especially the lube levels,
3/. Have your engine properly tuned,
4/. Change your fuel and air filters fairly regularly,
5/. Check your tyre pressures regularly (I use 28psi front and 32psi rear irrespective, unless I am going off road when they go down to 16psi all round)

As with everything, it all depends on the nut behind the wheel :D

Diesel fuel already contains oil for the purpose of lubricating the injection pump and injectors, and has done since it was first introduced. Adding yet more oil alters the balance of fuel to oil in the fuel.

Don't do what I've done.... quite simple really...

Don't put a set of genuine roof bars on and then drop an aluminium base roof tray on that.
Don't put a tall light bar on the front.
Don't put a big bull bar on the front.
Don't put 'chunky' tyres on it.
Don't keep a big 80 litre plastic box in the boot with a load of spanners and tubs of oil in it.
Don't fit a dog guard to which you attach recovery rings, strops and bungee cords.
Don't go everywhere at approaching legal limits.

Yep that's pretty much what I do and my fuel economy is I feel not that bad.

Just dropped £102 of Saino's doozil in at the bargin price of £96 thanks to an 8p off a litre coupon. Woman in kiosk said that was the biggest fill this week - they apparently average 20 quid!!
