I am about to change the hoses on my 4.6 p38, Hose from the pump to the box was like rocking horse poo to find for my 96 model. Going to change them both at the same time because it looks easier to do and they are both caked in scale, leaking from the rubber/steel coupling just below the pump, this has been trickling down the side of the block because of the fan and ending up at the sump.

The question I have is, does anything else have to come out of the way in order to get them out. They run past the thermostat and under the matrix return pipe (under all my gas system bits and bobs which will have to come out anyway to get at the top of the steering box anyway)

Hopefully once undone they should drop down?

Cheers in advance,

The oil filter and oil cooler pipe needs removing from the filter housing in order to pull the pipes down passed the thermostat. The coolant hoses will move to give enough room.

The best way to drain the pipes without getting the blood everywhere is to cut through the pipes under the radiator and let them drain.

Put the smaller pump to box hose back in first then the return hose. The return hose needs to fit in the clamps nearer the radiator. Takes some fiddling about to get it in, they will go.

Filled the reservoir with oil and cranked the motor and turned off. Refilled the reservoir. Did it again then let it run, lock to lock on the steering and back, topped the reservoir again, a little was all it needed. Job done.
