I have had mine since October 2011 and only done about 4K in her as she is really there as a dogmobile spare vehicle. Has 170K on the clock and seems reasonably well looked after - chassis in great nick though. Turbo went recently, brake vacuum pump and a brake line snapped but this was when lift kit put on so probably got caught. I have done a 500 mile round trip in her but would say that she is a 15 year old motor with 170K on her so I expect things to go wrong and due to this, don't have an awful lot of confidence in her ability to keep away fom the hard shoulder on a long run. I do have breakdown & recovery in place though!

6am yesterday left for a uni open day in falmouth.... bout 15 miles to the m5... then a30 dual carriage way accross devon and a chunk of cornwall, a a bit of a39 at tother end.arround truro... 295 miles total round trip near enough 5 hours exactly... vast majority at arround 70mph..fuel gauge is just under half . not bad for a h reg 200tdi disco 170k on the clock

will brim the tank before plymouth on wednesday to get a reasonably accurate mpg

Well it looks like I spoke too soon.

Went for a little bit of offroading yesterday with my young brother,

Disco drove about as normal.

Brother got stuck in a ditch, mud and water up to his doors (Daihatsu fourtrak)

Put strap on to pull him out, wasnt for coming as it was well and truly stuck,

Gave it about 7 or 8 attempts to pull it out, then no clutch on mine.

No warning or nothing, not as if clutch was starting to slip or anything like that,

Before I tryed to pull him out the Disco was driving as it should, was going up and down the bings no problem, was wet and muddy so it was spinning the wheels etc, as you would expect,

But as I say, tryed pulling my brother out the ditch and clutch just went without any warning.

Put it in gear, lift clutch and it just revs its nuts off, put it in gear and leave clutch up and start it, and it starts as if gear wasnt engaged,

Pedal feels a bit soft then spongy down the bottom, not lost any fluid,

Anyone any idea`s what it could be,

Tryed a search but all different problems, none of thems seem to be the same way mine went.

if youve got no drive with it in gear either the hi/low is knocked into neutral or youve broke something in the drive train, stick it in gear and start engine are propshafts rotating.. if ones going round youve broke something in that axle.... try engaging difflock to force drive to the other axle.... if it moves without any obvious bangs try driving home slowly. if neither prop is rotating its something broke in clutch or gearboxes...could be centre ripped out of cluch plate .

hi lo stick in neutral?

Dont think it is. was in 4 high when it happened.

Was in 4 high all day except fot one point when I had to use diff lock.

Just seemed to go all of a sudden as I said.

Just as it went. there was a very slight movement as if it wastrying to go.
Just felt strange the way it just packed in.

Thought it may have over heated or something and left it to cool down. but no difference

My old disco 1 has done more than 200k and its still going strong. Other than a rear diff at 70 on the motorway its all good and never let me down (YET!!!!!!!!)
