ok guys
4.0 and 4.6 v8s petrol or lpg , how often do you need to top up the water/antifreeze , how many miles between top up and how much

mine uses about a tea mug full every 4-5 days , does 4 short 2 mile trips a day, if you go on a 150 run it doesnt use any, no sign of leaks had all the spark plugs out to look for pink antifreeze on plugs -no sign what so ever , does not pressurise if you remove expansion cap when hot you get a slight hiss
so whether its bypassing the cap and boiling away i dont know, it is lpg and some say the engine runs hotter but not enough to show on the gauge
my previous p38 had the same symptoms but i ran it for 9 years and it never developed into anything more

Mine (LPG'd 4.6) did use about half a litre a week but this was due to fubar'd rad, since replacing had no coolant loss at all & i still check all fluids religiously every 100 miles or so. If your loosing water first things to check are all hoses & connections, rad, water pump, matrix - check drivers side carpet for o ring leaks.

If you have water in the cylinders you would have very clean plugs. That is a sure sign of water ingress. Try fitting a new cap it may have gone weak. You could have it static tested if you know someone with the gear to do it. Otherwise a garage.

I'd check the small hose going into plenum from near the thermo housing. Or around the housing itself.

Start it up and look for leaks before it get's too warm. It sounds like whatever is happening is stopping after your thermostat has opened.

will try a new cap , all 8 plugs looked normal surely if the red antifreeze was getting into the cylinders the ceramic would stain pinky-red

If coolant is getting into a cylinder it is atomised into superheated steam. It will steam clean the spark plugs, combustion chamber, valve heads and piston crown absolutely clean.

i thought this was why mine was so clean after the HGF ;)
