Good morning all:). I have two 200tdi discos. One, the later model has 24 spline diffs. The other has 10 spline diffs. The 24 spline disco is soon to come off the road for good. From the searches i have done it seems that i cannot simply swop just the diffs and half shafts.
Having been told that 10 splines are weaker than 24s my question is... just how much weaker? I will be going off road and dont fancy broken diffs and half shafts on a regular basis. :D

I wouldn't personally worry, I have off roaded a lot of landrovers and various other 4x4's all over the midlands and wales and have only ever broken 1 diff that was on a rangerover v8 classic not sure of how many splines thou, but I wouldn't worry about it being a persistent problem as its not one that I or any of the lads who I used to go with ever really considered a worry point as with the stress of off roading there are always going to be failures of any components.

I have had 4 24 spline duffs in mine in the last 2 n a half years. And I'm not doing anything toooo extreme. Just the way I drive it... And we have also swapped 10 spline to 24 just swap the stub axels aswell and wheel bearing setup as the seals are different. Or an easyer less mess way is the whole axel...

I've only ever had one diff go, a 24. And that was 'cos the axle casing cracked, the oil drained out and BANG. So I wouldn't worry one bit.

3.78% weaker, roughly .. how can anyone actually say 'how much weaker'?

In normal use, green-laning, Pay 'n Play and road use you won't notice any difference. They only break, mostly, if something's wrong or you're taking them past the usual design limits .. extreme stuff, or you drive like a twunt .. ;)

The 24 spline diff is the stronger one,
BUT
The 10 spline cv is the stronger one.
