Hi All,

First post here so apologies if in the wrong place!!

I am going to see this Landy next weekend – 1993 110 115k miles on the clock – I went yesterday and took some pics of the outside so I could do some research, From my phone conversation with the owner he said it doesn’t run and has gear box issues, Chassis has been welded a little. From what I have seen it has been sat for at least 2 years.

I have attached some pictures, hoe much shall I be looking to pay for this. I am looking for something that I can have as a project but not sure if this is to big of one, Would love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,
Ollie

I reckon it has been standing for nearer ten years, really heavy rust on them coil springs and er everything else.
So that would mean everything with rubber in or on it is most likely dead, so entire brake system, most if not all bushs/ball joints, tyres, the list will be endless.
Check chassis and bulkhead, plus 110 has lots of extra bits that rot for fun to!

I would suggest scrap value, and even then once you strip it (takes up a huge amount of room) it you might actually end up scrapping it!

I gestured to an owner (as I was slowly driving past) that I liked their knackered series III (which is in much worst shape than this), and he wanted £11.5k !!

Unbelievable.

Suffice to say; it’s still in his front garden rotting away.

Walk away mate, unless you want a massive project it does look like its been sat unloved
for years, it will need loads spent on it & its all the small parts that soon mount up.
Non running, gearbox issues, fit a new clutch whist the box is oot
brakes, bushes, pipes, all the oils, set of tyres. Then theres the earth faults.....
I can add up almost 2k on that & its not moved off the drive.

Looks like a BIG project, ideal for rebuilding onto a new galvanised chassis. Would require a good bit of space / workshop to do it. And a lot of time plus deep pockets. But, in my opinion and without seeing it in the metal (rust) its worth saving.

This has my vote as well. Buy with the intention of rebuilding on a new chassis and it is probabaly worth about 2k. The ID alone is worth 1k based on the dodgey eBay ads you see regularly. It is a good base for a full restoration. But would be a lot of time and money to rebuild as it is. Do you have any more information on how it doesn’t run? It takes a lot to stop a 200tdi engine from working. And a gearbox fault shouldn’t make it a non runner. A non driver perhaps but not a non runner. the only advantage you do have is in its current state you could possible do it as a rolling restoration. Get it running. Put it in for an mot and fix the failures and then drive it as you go through and replace bushes and rubbers over time.

Keep us updated on what you decide to do. lt would be great to save the old girl, but it looks like a lot of work.

I'm not convinced at all by those ID ads.

Why would anyone end up without an ID anyway? Stolen vehicles, sure, but anyone doing a build will start with somthing, as that would be the cheapest way to get a load of body parts.

So I'm unsure if there's demand for all these IDs, and I can't think for anything like the £1.5k etc that they get advertised for.

I'm not saying youre wrong, as I don't know - but I do know there's a world of difference between somthing being advertised for 1.5k and someone buying it for £1.5k.

I went to go and have a proper look around yesterday and managed to get inside it to have a look. Seemed much better than I anticipated. Has been sat since 2005 but was shocked by the lack of rust, The current owner had a new rear cross member put on in 03 and it looked very well done. Also had a new bulkhead put in in the same year.

Managed to get the engine running by jump starting it as the battery had been removed. Current owner then showed me a plethora of spare bits and bobs, Had a full set of new bushes. New grill and surrounds, rear led lights, New seats & cubby box spare doors (although not much better than the ones currently on the landy)

I have arranged another meeting where hopefully we can agree on the price and I can start to bring her back to life.

Will upload some pics I got off the engine bay later

Make sure you don’t get it washed before you agree on a price! But once you do get it, a good clean and no doubt it’ll look like a different beast altogether. The brakes will likely need looking at, together with some rubber components but it does sound like a good project.

I think i would probably agree with everyone that it will take a lot of work to get it right.
The chassis may have been 'welded' but that is really the start of the end, patching it up will only last for a few years.
Having a 'new' bulkhead rings all sorts of alarms to me, thats a big undertaking by itself and there was obviously a lot of rot to neccesitate a replacement.
Same with the rear X-member, yes they go before other parts of the chassis, but the rest is never that far behind IMO.

You will need a lot of room to work on it and pretty deep pockets.
Less than £1000.
Well it's all sorted, cleaned up and schweet it maybe worth upwards of £12K, but you will have likely spend that to get there.

For comparison I think you'd spend more than £7000 to get it to this standard ... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/van-details/202211041384750?advertising-location=at_vans

Yer the ally corrosion all along the lower body parts covered up with chequer plate is always a good
way to get top sovs for it.

I really think what you need to look at is what can definitely be saved and assume everything else will need replacing or refurbished.

I am not sure about doing a full refurb as I bought a running 93 defender with a 300tdi. That has needed axle casings replaced, new rad, new bearings (by choice), new brakes all round, outriggers front and back, rear crossmember, etc, etc. That had an mot and was running.

Don't assume the bodywork is OK because it's aluminium. Look on the YRM website for the replacement aluminium panels etc. You will get an idea of the amount of parts that rot out

As has been said many times above, assume new chassis and many many more bits. You could replace everything with Britpart, but would you really be happy with everything from that brand - from what I have seen many people recommend certain brands or OEM for a lot of parts (bearings, seals, water pumps belts etc) so don't go thinking the cheap parts you see advertised are what you will fit as they could be three or four times more expensive.

Check the swivels front and back. I thought mine were OK as I looked at them from the front, but backs were awful!

If you do get it, research electrolysis for the bits you can strip off.

Remember, even moving it will cost you.

Good luck which ever way you go.
