Hello.I don't know if this is an appropriate question for this forum but we have 2 landrover Freelanders one of which belonged to my late brother..it now has no MOT or road tax,needs a new alternator and sun roof needs attention-but purrs like a kitten when jump started. It was first registered on 1.9.2001 and has had 8 owners-although my brother only drove it a couple of times before he passed,it has been stood in our front garden for 18months. We now have someone interested in buying it and as we already have two other cars and another freelander we would like to sell- question is how much do we ask for it-can anybody help-thank you
it has done 100,00 miles.

Mmmm -Thank you I was hoping for more but I suppose taking in to account the price of having a new alternator fitted it makes sense.

try looking on ebay for similar freelanders

pay attention to make sure they are the same engine as the one you are selling as this makes a BIG difference in price.

depends on what engine and condition it's in

I'm only 1 opinion though. No MOT is very bad for any vehicles value, people have to think "what if it needs £600 of work?". Then there's the alternator and batt to think about. If it really is nice otherwise, sort those things out and sell it then.

Never owning a feelander I have no knowledge of them other than what I read in these comments sections, but to me,
a non road legal, attention required, freelander will never achieve any real value.
the first question prospective buyers would think is,
"why not repair the alternator & replace battery, then MOT"
why would the seller not want to do this?
is it really an old dog,
is it just a breaker ?

Not my cup of tea at anyprice, but then we have avid fans of hippo`s,
or gaylanders as cynical real landrover drivers call them.

saying all that though,
a) i`ve never seen the vehicle
b) i have no real wish to see the vehicle.

try EBAY, but set yourself a sum thats acceptable in "your" mind,
but be prepaird for muppits offering to part exchange the very best vehicle in return
(a complete pile of crap in reality)

my honest thoughts are - mend it & sell it,
or keep it for spares for yours as that "will" go wrong some day.

Get an estimate for the repairs and if viable get an mot. Check autotrader/ebay for prices taking into consideration mileage/condition etc. Should the repairs not be cost effective put it on autotrader/ebay for spares/repair, again check comparable prices. If I were in your shoes I would probably sell it 'as is', good luck.

Agree with selling as is otherwise you may end up spending a lot of money. If you list on ebay at a sensible starting price, have no doubt you will have interest and be prepared to have people turning up to look at it. Beware of chancers telling you crap about what work it needs and then making ridiculous low offers. If yoh put it on and get people viewing it, let the auction run and you will achieve close to the true value. If you can get hold of a battery put it in for viewers coming for ease of starting, obviously point out youv done this and that alternator is goosed. Its a good time of year to be selling, good luck whatever you decide.

Put it through a MOT test then sell it with the failure sheet if it fails

At least a prospective buyer will know what they're buying

that^ then if its not hugely expencive get the bits from ebay
fix it mot it THEN sell it and make back its true value not the scrap value
which is all you will be offered in its current state.

its sat there 18 months another few weeks whilst you get it fettled
wont hurt but will make quite a difference in selling price.
