looking for a lpg rangie i have noticed that on ebay and autotrader the nicer ones are pricey and the more affordable ones are high miles or not as tidy.

does the lpg on the rangies tend to add to its value is so by how much, as i was thinking i could go for a really good one and fit the blazelpg myself as i reckon im competent :D

do you reckon the diy route is worth it or should i just pay the extra for one already converted ? ;)
 
you will not find it cheaper overall to install yourself or have installed! the main thing with these cars is good maintenance regime. there are theories of when the engine will go but most people agree it will go at some point!

to replace engine its gonna cost you lots of money unless your prepared to do the work yourself!

i would find a car that has had en engine rebuild and preferably one with t/h liners fitted! then worry about lpg!

the gas fitting is not hard at all. if you can strip an engine then it shouldnt be much of a challenge! do it safely and neatly and you shouldnt have a problem getting it signed off!

thanks gav, my budget was 8k but the more i look the more i see many around the year 2000 going for arounf £5k for nicer ones but any with lpg seem more expensive and usually at dealers, i have contacted sirus and have been considering his as it has had the engine and gearbox done and looks like a very good example.

I want one in excellent condition inside and out so i can cherish it and keep it for a while. i want one :D
 
well if your gonna keep it then money isnt really a problem as you will be prepared to spend on it, i would seriously consider the one from sirus. i would make the effort and go see it, it will at least give you a idea of what your looking at. as said the engine and box are rebuilt so you shouldnt have any issues with em! again if you will be keeping it then converting to gas is the way to go it will eventually repay its self but dont expect too much out of the gas system. they are cheaper fuel wise but only by around 30% when you consider the facts of it(google the subject) alot of people walk in to lpg ownership with the view of virtually free motoring, nothing is free and you'd be a foll to follow these people! that said, i know i am always smiling as i fill the rangie up with gas and others a filling with petrol. i do feel like i'm getting something for nothing!!

and rest assured that the local wildlife is benefitting from your lower emmissions, just watch the trees inhale clean air as you waft by in your urban tank!!! litterally a gas guzzler!!

with all the hassle i have had, and pennies spent, i would buy another tommorrow. albe it a little wiser next time!!!

me and the wife have had many (cough) discussions over the 'pile of ****, scrap, waste of money, bag 'o' ****e, shouldnt have bought it etc etc' but i have grown fond of it and still enjoy the ride, a labour of love i reckon!!
 
120419043249 looks nice on ebay, not lpg but at 5k it gives you option to convert and fill the tank up, insure it and tax it!!! i would get a aa inspection and warraty if possible too!

if you take 4k cash in one pocket and divide another 1 k into 100's in another pocket. put 4.2k in front of him and i reckon he will snatch your hand off! walk away at 4.5k tho!!

or another 'blag' take your mate with you and give him 500 quid to look after, then after 4.2k ask your mate if he can lend you 500(or whatever you are prepared to pay) quid if needed!!!

i'm sure with pound notes in your hand you can lever a good deal with enough cash spare to convert or put away for the rainy day when it comes!

cheers gav, yeah im going to seriously consider sirus's car however im about 300 miles away so i need to try and be sure im likely to buy it before i go, so that means lots of questions and photos lol i hope he is a patient guy. I have had a lpg frontera 3.2 before and it was terrible on fuel as it had been a poor diy fitment but it gave me an idea of lpg use.

sounds like your happy with yours but a car that does not have things go wrong is boring as there is then nothing to fix or tinker with :D

another thing im worried about is spending all that money and not keeping it for long because recently im changing my cars every 8 months but im buying things that are not exciting enough for me.

the one on ebay is far away too, and the dealer has not got a good enough feedback as trust enough to make the trip with the faith of it being as good as he says but i agree it looks good and if it were close i would go and see it but where i live is bad for buying any interesting cars

the advantage of going for sirus's is i can trace all his moves on the forum :D lol just kidding but i can see what an enthusiast he is and that says a lot about how someone looks after their motors. :cool: i hope im right lol :rolleyes:

i have expressed my interest to sirus and will get back to him soon.

i agree, at least you know sirus' car is mechanically sound and will last. you'll have a wedge left over so i would get it converted by a pro company. then you know its all sorted and correct. try to get some one close by as you will need to have them set it up after its bedded in. and theres also the servicing. also get the lpg software and lead for the system and store a copy of the set up after youve been to the lpg fellas, at least then you have a reset point should anything occour!

yeah but im a scottish tight wad :D im guessing it will cost at least 2k for a fitted system, i dont actually have the cash ie 8k, it was what i was allowing myself to spend max (ish) but from what i have seen the 2000 models around 5k look ideal to me so why spend more than necessary. Obviously i would have the cost of the lpg to fork out for but if i get an installer to fit the system it will take me a lot longer before i start to save money on fuel, also im not known for keeping cars a long time, if i spend 2k on a lpg system i would need to keep it a couple of years to benefit. If the rangie is really good i dont see a problem with that. I have never had a car that cost so much new so it should be sheer luxury and a real pleasure to own and look after, so ill keep it longer :D

if yer scottish AND tight then you wont like a rangey!!! they are like a dog at a lampost where fuel stations are concerned!!!

but if you want luxury motoring then go for it, run it on petrol for a month or two to see if ya like it then flog it if not!

yeah thats what i was thinking, my most recent cars i kept for a while were a chipped audi TT coupe (2 1/2 years) and a bmw 528i se E39 (2 years, since owning these i have not had anything nearly as good and i get bored quickly and sell lol but if the luxury and power is there i should be a happy boy, im also a regular forum user and like to get enthusiastic about my cars ;)

I'd try and get a good one thats already been lpg converted,I know this might be stating the obvious but if you turn out not to like it or just decide in a few months to get somthing else the better you rangie is easyer it will be to sell on,I'd imagine most people looking for a 4.0/4.6 would be happier with an lpg conversion already done than buying a standard one and forking out more money on getting a conversion.

the thing is there is absolutely nothing near me so it would mean travelling so im going to see sirus's and if i buy it ill run it for a few weeks before i decide to convert to lpg :rolleyes:
