just wondering what mpg your getting out of your 300tdi.I'm getting about 18 to the gallon but have got black smoke problems and am running big wheels. Does anyone get 25 all round.also need advice on setting fuel pump up.

Getting 28 out of my 200tdi with a tweaked pump but i do have to take it easy to get that. driving with a heavier foot gets me arount 25 having my foot planted takes it down to 23. if you do a search for "tuning 200/300tdi" you will find a really well detailed post on it

The fuel in mine seems to be lasting ages, but that could be down to it always being sat in my garage in bit's.:D

Used to average ~28 and most of that was crawling into London in traffic. Best was 36 driving across Ireland. All A roads, pretty constant 50mph.
If you're getting 18 I would give it a good service and maybe try some injector cleaner before adjusting the pump.
Wish my current TD5 was as good. 24-25mpg but I haven't taken the Cat off yet.

18mpg from a 300tdi  are you sure you dont have a v8 running on 4 cylinders ;)

loads of mpg threads in the disco/defender/rr sections but if its currently low (which yours sounds likely) then best things to do would be start with a service, possibly decat and blank of the egr valve. All easy and cheap to do.

after that give it a good run out and if your still having problems start to look at the pump/turbo adjustment (might be best to record what you do while you do it in case you need to start again)

Tyres do make a difference but not that much. My 110 is currently running on 235/70 road tyres and although better on fuel than when i had 265/75 saharas i wouldnt say it was 10mpg different.

good luck

EDIT: oh and i used to easily get 25-28 out of my 97 auto disco running 265/75 mud tyres too.

Very low - my 110 is cinsitently manageing 30-32mpg, albeit I drive her very gently. That's a mix of town, commute through traffic and long motorway runs.

Well your all getting much more than me.I've obviously got problems!let's hope I can fix it.think I need original pump settings as a start!

My 300 disco avarage's 29 will do 35 if i drive like a vicor which doesn't happen very often,

I got the Fuelly app working today, I was very pleasantly surprised to see the old girl giving me 33.3mpg :D

Maybe the op's injection pump has been tweaked? To go from an average 30 mpg to 18mpg is a pretty big drop, maybe a leak, surely it would be black-smoking a lot?
