Thinking of putting a heated screen in my Disco 2.

Anyone got any idea how much they are as I can't seem to find a price online.

A fiver for a text???

Plus standard network charge?

Cheeky buggers.

and thats until you text stop too

why not look to see if the parts are there first? sometimes lr have been known to fit the loom and just not connect it up then it would be a case of a switch and a windscreen.

or you could try the usual autoglass etc. or get the fittings ready, have an 'accident' with yours and tell the insurance it already had one fitted when they send someone out to replace it.

Of course being an upstanding member of the community no-one would use the second option :p

Wiring is all in place, and I have a crack in the current screen that I suspect will spread once the cold weather really hits so thought I'd find out in advance.

My heated screen went tonight, i have screen cover on my insurance but will ask what the full price is when they come out to fix it and let you know. Will phone them on monday.

I can tell you that a normal screen from autoglass is £490 as i got a chip and dont have screen cover. I paid to get the chip fixed but i'm adding screen cover next renewal!

Booked my car in for the new screen, but the girl on the end of the phone couldnt tell me the full price as she could only book the fitters, (and take the excess off me) and didnt have the price list. The fitter should be able to tell me when he comes out Friday morning. I will post back when its done on Friday.

Can't be more than £150(the heated screen itself)......i've replaced mine(with aftermarket) few months ago at Pilkington Romania and it was about £200 fitted.

need to check mine out

Put it on for the first time this morning and all i got was both ends defrosted but not the centre.
Is there a way of checking the element (or whatever you call it)

Well they came out to do my screen on Friday morning and when they got the top trim out of the van it was smashed. Re-booked for today and they brought 2x trims with them and when the fitter got them out of the van they were both smashed. The fitter was going to go back for another trim but after checking his manager confirmed that the trims they had in stock were also bent. Now i am waiting for a phone call to say when they are coming out again, but they have said that as they now have no stock of trims locally they are going direct to Land rover for one.
3rd time lucky i hope.

Heated screen on my 2002 Disco is soon to be replaced on insurance. Currently the vehicles totally dry.

However I'm worried about leaks from:
  1. A windscreen joint that is infamous for not sealing
  2. The cold weather effecting the joint
  3. The cold weather effecting the fitters resolve to get a sealed joint
Questions:
  1. Is it my Model Year that might suffer a bad seals on this joint?
  2. I should explain my worries to the fitter and encourage him to feel the dryness of the carpets?
  3. The adhesives / sealants work similarly in all temperatures, right?
  4. The fitters would appreciate being able to work indoors and therefore do a better job? (ie i take car to AutoGlass or whoever)
  5. Am i worrying about nothing because the chap will be a fully trained expert who has done hundreds of these?

I was talking to the fitter today about the leaky screen problems, as i had to reseal mine when i got the car in Febuary. He commented that a normally a screen of this size would take 1 to 1 1/2 tubes of adhesive sealer to fit. On a discovery it takes 1 1/2 tubes along the top alone to get a good seal. He seemed to know what he was talking about.
The latest on my screen trim is after talking to the manager, they have a new trim due to be delivered at some time tomorrow. When it arrives they are going to phone and re book the job in.

i just paid £170 cash for a heated screen for a 300tdi which i fitted to my 200 shape.

that was cost direct to the windscreen fitter (he's a pal so got me one cost price)

i should espect around 250 fitted maybe, obv td5 might be cheaper or dearer though...?

cheers.

p.s. with 200 shape heaters being as useless as they are, the heated screen is very nice in this weather :)

Good luck Sqizzel. Would be interested to know how it goes.

Sorry 955i for not adding anything useful about prices!

It seems it's close https://www.lrdirect.com/cmb000300-windscreen-assembly/ .....they didnt mention it but this part nr. is for disco 2 heated windscreen, the unheated is https://www.lrdirect.com/cmb101040-glass-windscreen/ ......... the genuine LR unheated is almost like a OEM heated one:mad:
