i have just been looking through the haynes manual for my series land rover at jobs i have done recently and reckon i am a 3.5 spanner, could be a 4 but "cba".
so how many spanners are you and why?

Dunno, the haynes doesn't cover 'putting a 200tdi in your series' or 'putting a Salisbury rear axle on a 88" ' or 'fitting a Disco 1 axle to the front of your 88" (the next project)

Seems the latest batch of haynes manual close to useless.
Half the sections where you actually need their help they don't provide ie; gearbox's and diffs instead they just put rubbish like it is beyond a diy mechanic and should be left to the specialist.... what utter bollocks

agreed. the other thing i find useless is they assume you know what all the parts are called. How can you remove the gangle pin from the foofoo valve on the main shaft, when you don’t know what a gangle pin and a foofoo valve look like?

I've had that problem before too. I hardly use the Haynes now, if it's a job im not 100% sure on i look it up on the internet and normally find someone has done it before and put up loads of really detailed photos to follow.

I did, however, use it last night for the Spitfire, i thought i knew what to do, but, it is nice to check before breaking something very expensive!
 
I wish...! although i am probably one of very few people who can say i have flown in a Spitfire despite never being in the plane...!
 
How is the mark 4 remotely 'gay' ?

It is a 1971 Mark 4, soft top with a stage 1 head, twin webbers, etc. and was (And will be again) a great little car. There really isn't that much different between the mark 3 and mark 4 so i really can't see what your basing your judgement on.
 
Is that the 1500 engine in the mark IV?

As for spanners, I am one massive spanner and probably shouldn't be trusted with real tools - but I give it a go anyway. Learn by doing, right?
 
The Mk 3 was, by far, better. The Mk4 had an arse like Fatima Whitbread and went round corners like the Titanic.

These are facts verified by me and some bloke in a hat in Wigan.
