I've read reports of 140k odd on a well maintained box with regular oil and filter changes that isn't driven hard, never revved to bollox, never towed, never bullied or harried....

Mine's a LT85 in a military 110 3.5 V8 and it's done about 280,000km - 175k miles. It's had reasonable oil changes, but it's a bugger to get to the gearbox oil filler so I must confess I haven't been religious about it. Just had the heads off and certainly couldn't complain - bit of coke on the piston crowns and heads but the valves just needed a bit of a lap and then a bit of a scrape round the bores.

Mine has done 114,000 but only had it since september, so i need to get it sorted, do we go main dealer for the filter ??

I would always advocate main dealer or the OEM for the Gearbox Filters....aftermarket/third party filters can either be the wrong filtration grade causing little filtration or getting clogged easier...and also the filter material has been known to break up due to sub-standard materials....

Filtran on the ZF box - not sure who the OEM is for the GM box....but I got mine from my friendly local dealer

Depends how it has been driven. But most left alone and not serviced TD6 boxes that go, seem to give up the ghost at around the 100,000 mile mark.

Which model year did they stop using chocolate gearboxes?
2006 onwards they stopped using the GM boxes and all used ZF's....

until about 2009 even the ZF boxes had issues - from 2009 onwards they seem more robust, but that is not to say they are without issues....more reports could start coming in as these later cars approach the 80K barrier....

Can't remember what I paid for my ZF Filtran filter....£45 for the Filter I think a tenner for the gasket....few quid for the O ring....no bolts to replace on the ZF Box...

I've recently brought a 2010 Vogue TDV8 with 67k on the clock and that needed the transfer box & gearbox splitting to re-seal the whole thing as it was started to leak a bit.

The garage that did it said they've done a few with that problem now.

To be fair, the problem I described was a 'lazy build' type problem which was fixed at no cost to myself as opposed to a poor build or design flaw.

Can't fault it now though. Yet...
