I've owned 2 but I only really consider myself as owning one because the second was bought to strip. Like many, my first was also my introduction to green oval ownership, a rotten beyond repair jap imported 300tdi (so don't believe all those 'rust free' ads) that I attempted to save but the chassis was like a patchwork quilt. Loved every mile driving that heap, and miss it terribly. Second was a fairly tidy 300tdi 'XS' model that actually could and should have been saved but I didn't have the time so broke it. Only drove it once - the trip home, and all the feelings came flooding back. Currently on the look out for a 51/02 reg (late pre-facelift) d2 V8 es.
 
Two D4's so far, first new in September 2015 and the second, bought used, in November 2016.

Currently a D5 parked up outside for the next 5 days while my current D4's in for repair. Not my, or the car's, fault though! Missing the extra pulling power of the D4 already though...

may i ask how would u compare the d4-d5 please, in the general ability between them , alas though not having a d5 long term if you've been able to get a general first impression
