In which case vehicle prep is paramount, and usual critical spares carried too.

I would say vehicle wise keep clear of anything loaded with electronics and sensors, you cant fix these at the side of a track road.

Forget about a 90, not enough space. A 110 is much more adaptable and spacious and myself I'd be looking at ambulance/utility body versions though they do go for a premium.

Split charge system/aux battery is pretty much a must if your running a winch and extra electrics.

2 spares are sensible so you need to budget for a swingaway carrier on the back and the other bonnet mounted if you want to keep the inside and roof as clear as possible.

Jerry cans can be mounted to the sides and worth a look at under wheel arch storage systems........expensive to buy but diyable once you know what you want

It may sound silly but would it be a silly idea to build your own carriers and things. I'm pretty sure I know people who would be up to the job and I would imagine raw materials are much cheaper than a third party manufacturer piece right?

Come to think of it, does anyone have any experience with ex-military 110s? I would pursue my military contacts and maybe get my hands on one of them as an alternative? My thinking is that they already have extra mods which may be useful so a good price one could potentially save work?

Jacob............ This does happen as it seems to be normal as A initiation process, Like joining a Frat House;) So take it with a grain of salt, this is by far the best Land Rover site out there, and the expertise is second to none. So take a deep breath count to 10 and enjoy.

Designing and making kit to your own needs are half the fun :) Lots of folk go for drawer systems between the arches and runners are easy to source. There's lots of unused space under the arches, esp on a 110 that can be used for storage the major issue is keeping it secure from the outside but easy enough to steal some ideas and adapt them.

Cheers man, I kinda got that after the first post, it's quite hard to distinguish banter on the web but now I know the game, I'm all for playing it :p I agree that this site is full of great info just from my last couple of hours browsing and so I hope I can get involved and hopefully push this idea forward with the help of you guys!

With the current,current events in Africa careful planing is desirable. Have you had any survival training, or self defense course's? You traveling solo or with a M8. Have you had any advanced medical emergency training? With attention to broken bones, as in making splints/setting breaks, and putting stitches in wounds, along with compression dressings and stop bleed powders, and gastronomical issues.

Hi mate, as I say I'm fairly experienced traveller so I won't be doing this on a whim. I've trained in first aid and survival already and was actually planning on doing conflict zone training at some point for other work which would cover a lot of these things. This is why I wanted to get some information now with 18months - 2 years in hand for planning so I can be as prepped as possible. :D

This is why I wanted to get some information now with 18months - 2 years in hand for planning so I can be as prepped as possible. :D

conflict training you will get that answering the loons on loonyzone ;) if you get passed the welcome the boys give you :p you can talk your way out of anything ;)
