My 97R 300Tdi takes at least 3 miles for the needle to start to move, never goes higher than 1/4 up the gauge, and the heater never really gets warm. Just something else on the growing list of things that need fixing!

Well I got the fan undone today. Went to Land Rover Orphanage in Chippenham to see if they have started breaking a Disco yet that they told me about last week as I'm getting the fan and viscous off it. We tried while I was there and it was a piece of cake this time...

The only difference was that the engine was warm and it was in gear... But it came off real easily...

I changed the thermostat on our new '98 TDi300 manual and it's made a big difference.

Before the heater was very slow to warm up and the engine temp hardly ever got up tp the middle of the gauge.

Now the heater is pushing out warm air in minutes and the engine is warming up within 3 miles - HURRAH !!!!

New thermostat about £3 - results priceless!!!!!

Took about 10 mins to do - a piece of cake.

Cheers
Dave

If you have a 300tdi that doesn't warm up in a couple of miles and the temp gauge doesn't settle at just above halfway up you should try a new thermostat. Buy a genuine one, I don't know why but they work better.

Thats good!!! lmao my 200tdi um takes a good 15 minutes steady driving before its got its act together! Dont know if thermostat is in there but the temprature according to gauge only makes the second white line on a hot day! When its like this brrrr cold it does not go past the first line.......................Any suggestions?

Replace the thermostat - made the world of difference on my wife's TDi300.

Never used to warm up, now the heater is starting to get warm within 2-3mins, engine is warm (halfway on gauge) by 3-4 miles.

Much much better !!!!!
