So since I'm taking some leave in Aug. and going home for the 1st time in years. So I figured I would get a jump start on doing all the checks to my hippo to split the costs over a few months and I was heading out for one of those lovely month long field exorcises. So I did the fluids, filters, breaks, ect then parked her at my buddies house.
Came back picked it up from my buddies place and noticed some strange noises. nothing major some ticks and what nots. Just had the drums and rotors turned so figured the breaks were still breaking in since I may have put 20 miles on them before parking her. So drove it around for a bit then bang! WOW sounded like something went bad in a big way.
Took her to our tech center lifted her up and yep, transfer case had split itself wide open by the rear drive shaft. :(
The fluid and metal shaving was a huge clue!!! LOL
So I swapped out the transfer case for a 60k mile used one and now I'm waiting on a used drive axle since the front joints were nearly destroyed when the transfer case ate itself and the dealer wanted 950$ for a new cv joint where I can get a whole drive shaft for less then half that. Oh and the transfer case frame mount had to be replaced too. :(
Well I wanted to go camping this week. Grab one of the girls and a tent and head out. :( oh well maybe next weekend, since I should have this all done tomorrow night. :)

you sure your "buddy" didnt have a little play with the old girl while you were away? I reckon he did it, busted her up real bad, go round and av a word pal.

As you can see it truly ate itself. and I had the keys so unless shes a master car thief which I doubt since she didn't know where her battery was on her car. LOL

that is bonkers (and quite scary!)

what's going to cause that to happen? Something loose somewhere and shifted it?

looks like ya need a new one.....well just thank the lucky stars it didnt happen at 70mph on the M4. 2wd now then, better mpg anyway.

LOL I have no idea what happened. You would think I would have had some warning noises or would have been offroading and it happened there. but just driving around on the base should have been just fine.
