Hi to all. i just thought i'd post on here how great we think our little freelander is and how much we think of her :).

She's a 98 5 door with the highly respected and thought of rover k series, only kidding.

She has so far 142,000 miles on the original engine and going strong.
Well that's the kiss of death put on her... :(

The bodywork is very good apart from a small patch of rust the size of a 5p on the rear door.

She has a few niggles but we're going to sort them out.

Everything works electrically on her aswell, the sunroof works a treat; it doesn't open and close but you can here the motors and cables working beautifully.

The Rover clock on the dashboard works perfectly; you can't read it because half of the LCD has given up.

I did have a problem with the VCU which caused the rear differential to eat itself doing 80mph down the dual carriageway.

The VCU was completely removed including the propshafts and the rear differential replaced and to be honest the difference in driving is amazing, and the fuel consumption.

We're after another Landrover Discovery but we're not going to get rid of the Freelander, hopefully soon she'll be receiving some TLC, attention, upgrades, tidying up and perhaps a bit of restoration.

I just thought i'd put this on here because i don't think the old freelander is praised enough.

I have had a few problems since saying mine had no major problems like vcu then clutch in the auto box so I am not saying anything but over 166000 miles somthing is bound to go wrong with any car and I still would not part with it

I am happy with my Freelander 1.8 as well, served me well last winter and just back on the road for this winter again :)

We bought here last october for £1000 and done just over 20k since buying it.

She's done several trips to the Isle of Skye from the midlands, one of those was in december last year during the snow and ice. That was coped with admirably especially considering she had 2 bald rear tyres  and the dodgy VCA aswell.

For the MOT she had
1. A new catalytic converter (Cheap as chips).
2. A rear bush.
3. New tyres.
4. Track rod end.
5. Brake Pads.

All in all not to bad for a high mileage car.

I've got a few things planned for her hopefully soon.
1. Carry out the thermostat mod.
2. Replace the headgasket and associated stuff.
3. Replace the clock.
4. Have a play with the sunroof.
5. Replace the rear door / tailgate handle that snapped off at 4am in the morning whilst loading the car in the snow to go to the Isle of Skye in December.
6. Sort out rust spots on rear door / tailgate.
7. Fix the front auxiliary driving lights which stopped working.
8. Replace the suspension springs as the MOT advisory did say a bit rusty.
9. Polybush the suspension.
10. Fit a lift kit.
11. Remove paint and refurbish rear subframe.
12. Fit a 4.6 Rover V8 from a TVR (Well i can but dream)

That's for starters anyway.
