been out today in my TD4 diesel and got it up to 90mph (private land of course) and still more left, just how fast can they go ?

no idea about the TD4, but the L series, once lightly modded, can get to a max of about 105mph... well into the redline, and lots of strain on the VCU

If you want a fast car, get something else

v6 tested on my private country estate. Book time is 10.1 seconds. To be honest it can do it, but all that stress can't be good for it.

i got 107 with a ronbox and a few other small modifications. but yeah. they aren't speed machines but half way through second gear they really pull

You won't be able to get the smaller engine Freelanders much over 100 Mph. The most powerful Freelander 1 was the V6. This has 50% more power than any other Freelander. The 177 Bhp V6 tops out at 112 Mph and at that speed is drinking fuel at a rate of about 3 litres a minute.

We got ours to 95 (on satnav), 100 on the dash on the autobahn on Thursday. Felt like it had a fair amount left too, though it does have a ronbox fitted.

I can't help noticing that your auto is short shifting in this video Hippo. The box should do it's up shift at 6450 Rpm at full throttle. The 177 Bhp KV6 makes full power at 6499 Rpm so your's is loosing out on a bit of added go.

I remember you saying this before. I was filming it again recently so will check if it's the same. The auto used in the vid is the recon I had fitted. So they will have updated all the computers at the same time. I'm wondering if they turned down the power of changed a settling to make it perform slightly different, to try to protect the recon auto.

I'm curious about that Hippo. My last V6 definitely changed up just before the rev limiter so made full use of the power available. Yours may have a later software update to ease the amount of power the box takes. The Jatco box can take 300 Nm of torque which is more than the 240Nm the KV6 can muster. Will your box shift at 6500 using command shift?

Never tried it manually but will have a go at some point and report back. It's not uncommon for main dealers to apply upgrades which change things for the better. I don't have any proof this is the case with mine, but I would hope they did apply upgrades if they were available at the time, if they apply something which protects it or makes it last longer.

all i know is they are nippy little bu88ers,done
90 mph no sweat, like said though any faster i
would be a bit suss about road holding.

I need to find a stretch of private road

The last time it was on a private road, it breezed to 110mph, and was still pulling

But then it's not your average Freelander :D

Was it sold by a VAG dealer?

Impressed. I don't think I'd push mine that hard, to worried about repair bills! How much smoke?

not more smoke than usual,
I usually take it to 150km/h for about a minute during longer trips (always on a clear highway) about 2 or 3 times a year and always the day before IPO (portuguese MOT) to keep the exaust line clean

my old td4 auto 2001 would do 115 mph but my latest on a TD4 auto 2006 will only do about 95mph at a push wish I had my old one back the wife keeps saying I have a lead foot I had her 1800 freelander up to 95 mph and got a good telling of from the wife. mind you I guess if I took all the bling and roof rack with the big spots on off it might go a bit faster.
