aye. forget the winch, unless you get a real proper hydraulic one.
get a hi lift jack and maybe a tirfor hand winch. much cheaper and far more reliable.

I went to the Lake District in my 90 but had to come home 'cos me mother was taken ill, and I kept getting nose bleeds 'cos I'd left Yarksheer.

sound like a cool trip would'nt mind coming along myself, enjoy yourself any way and take strong pain killers for your back as i did a trip around the british isles for charity some years back when i were in the RAF you takes a pounding on your tailbone and kidneys i found, unless you fit range rover seats which is what i have done to my series III big difference to the ride. all the best for your trip mate.

Lucky u had some back up. I don't know if my mobile will even work in the desert. Just me my mate and Probably a few natives dotted about.

perhaps a satellite phone is a good idea, hiring one would be cheapest and best try googling or Satellite Phones from Iridium, Globalstar Satellite Phone, Inmarsat Satellite Internet and Thuraya Satellite Handset regards Jonathon

Satellite phones a VERY expensive. Iridium is one of the best systems.

Who makes sand tyres????? i don't think i'll be doing any hardcore dune driving. not in a series II anyway

sand is %25-%40 below normal pressure apparently according to the men at dunlop.

I usually run my tyres at 25 PSI so that sounds about right.
