Nick - I have not done it on a LR but experience in other cars leads me to believe that it would be significantly cheaper for you to sell your landy in a country that drives on that side of the road and then buy a different landy with the steering wheel on the ride side for your country. None of us like doing this but I promise you it will be significantly cheaper!!
 
I would imaging if your willing to put the effort in the paper work dept. then relatively easy,

That said I'm not sure if things other than pedals and steering(to name a few) needing changing over, good luck to you !
 
Unless you are particularly attached to this LR, I agree with COA - sell it and buy a LHD version.

You would require a new steering box (and pipes), substantial cutting to the bulkhead for the pedals and steering column, a complete new dash and possibly a new swivel if your doesn't have a bracket for the drag link.
 
Actually, it is not as hard as many people think. It depends on how old the Defender is. On most of the early ones, the RHD and LHD bulkheads are identical. There is a small amount of cutting to be done, but all of the mounting points for the pedal box, steering assembly and brake servo are already there. There are already holes in the bulkhead for the wiring loom and speedo drive etc, on the LHS of the bulkhead, so all you need do is fit a LHD dash, and move the bits across. You will also need the LHD steering links. These should just bolt on as the axles & hubs have fittings for both LHD and RHD setups.

Yep mines like this all I'd have to do is swap the pedals over, modify the dash and get a new steering box
 
thanks guys. i am just looking for a cheap lhd defender as i livce in the middle east and even old ones are still big bux. shipping one out here is actually only a few hundred quid hence looking to either a rhd one
 
Could you not get hold of a lhd second hand bulkhead and swap the bulkheads over? Be a better starting point I would have thought :)
 
or just put up with driving a rhd, i have for a couple of years now I might convert it if i go ahead with a V8 conversion, use a lhd disco for some doner parts.
 
Wouldn't you need a seat box too as the drivers foot well is larger than the passengers side?

Not on mine, I don't know about the 200 Tdi onwards Defenders, but the bulkheads for the earlier 110's and 90's were the same for both RHD & LHD.
 
So why is the edge of my seat box to transmission tunnel 650mm drivers side
And 550mm on passenger side?? Has someone been in there chopping and moving stuff around!:p

its only to clear the transmission.... unless you would like to move that you need to keep it as is

there is a blank for the handbrake the other side
