So I’ve just got a 2001 TD5 110. I love it but for the life of me I can’t lock the back door. I thought the lock was just broken so I bought a new one from Bearmach. When I flick the latch on the inside up it stays up but when I close it I can still open it, and the latch is down. I don’t know quite what I can do with the key to lock it but I’m turning it anti clockwise.

Sorry for the stupid question but am I missing something? I don’t know anyone else with a Defender.

Iirc the lock barrel can be removed and replaced. Take the barrel out and ensure the tangs aren’t worn out.

we only do stupid questions on LZ

Thanks but I have the lock changed over, it only took about five minutes. The problem is that the lock still doesn’t work and I’m not sure if it’s user error or not.

Make the door (lock) catch close manually . Then try the key & then latch. If this locks you will need to move the striker outwards as it may just be catching only on the first part of the anti burst lock. (It needs to be both for the locks to work)

Thanks, the thing about the strike plate not being far enough out did it. I realised that if I closed it really hard it would actually lock so I moved it forwards by about 1mm. Closes and locks no problem now.
