My engine (2003 V8 Lpg converted on a D2) is drinking coolant. Took it to JE Engineering who advised the block is cracked based on a hydrocarbon test.

How do i know for sure this is the case? there is a tiny bit of white sludge in the oil, no loss of power although it runs quite rough for the first couple of mins of starting up until it settles down (both gas and petrol)

I have sourced a replacement engine (4.6) but would like to feel sure i am doing the right thing before i shell out lots of £'s

Thanks

Graham

taking it to another garage for a second opinion might be a plan ? - but don't mention what JE say they have found

beg/borrow/buy some testing kit to confirm what JE say ?

Thanks Sean, will try this out.

there is one way and it does work buy the irontite sealer from ebay, flush the cooling system follow the instructions to the letter it does work if you stop using coolant then you have cured it and the swap to the 4.6 is a worth while upgrade

hI gb1963 i had the same problem so i bought some irontite ceramic sealer of flea bay, thought try this before i spend big bucks on a new engine first, this was done 6 month ago and not a drop of coolant has it lost since and that is towing a twin axle caravan. :D

Quick update, events took over and the car had to go into the garage..opted for a replacement, lots of dosh but i need peace of mind for work and stuff, so it should be ready by friday/monday.

Thanks for all the info/advice though

how much is it costing you? I may be looking at a new cam and tappets..... but don't know if a rebuild would be better.
