Hi,
My partner is having a bit of a problem with her Freelander - i'm a n00b here but would appreciate any help or suggestions
She's had a few niggly issues with it, but the current (and most worrying) one is that it is using a lot of water - we have filled up the header tank from apparently empty about 4 times in the last week. Also, after about 10 minutes' running, the engine smells distinctly hot. She drove it about 5 miles today and had to stop as there was steam coming out from under the bonnet. She waited for it to cool down, topped it up again, and was able to drive home.
The odd thing is, there doesn't seem to be an obvious leak. Once home she waited for it to cool down, topped it up, and ran the engine with a tray underneath - there wasn't any significant leakage, so we're stumped as to where it is all going. Two other odd things are that the water, once the engine has run, goes a coppery colour. Also, the temperature gauge *never* goes over haflway up, even when it smells hot.
Any ideas?
