I've replaced the broken IRD on my (55)Td4 this week and have taken it for a little test drive today (10 mile ish) however, the IRD seems hot. I can hold my hand on it so its not mad hot, but hot enough to cause concern. The gearbox is cool.

Should the IRD have heat coming from it ?

Sorry if this has been in previous threads, I have had a good luck but couldnt find the answer.

Did you connect up the coolant hoses and breather pipe on top of the IRD? Also did you fill it with the correct oil?

I've connected up the two coolant hoses, and the breather hose, put the correct oil in the IRD and in the gearbox.

I filled the IRD with slightly over 1litre (couldn't get any more in, it was coming out of the filler hole)

However, I have noticed that the coolant level which was on maximum before the test drive has dropped to below minimum.

Any ideas ?

You need to top up and bleed the coolant system have a look in the Haynes manual mine did this after I replaced the ird
