Hello all. I have a 1999 disco 1 300dti auto. It's a re import from the land of the rising sun and have had a trouble free year with it. However the wife noticed the centre console, especially the area in front of the handbrake gets extremely hot. Any ideas as to the cause and what can be done to remedy?

I would advise doing a search on this site. Someone else with the same vehicle has had exactly the same problem so it might be quicker to find the answer!

Welcome to the madhouse.

My dad had this problem with with his Disco, in the end the problem was the bulb's for the auto gearbox were to higher wattage (10 instead of 2.2) changed these and no more hot console.

the pipes for the rear heater vents run under the console on each side, this will make the console warm/hot on the outer edges

I have a 1997 300Tdi manual, it also gets quite hot in the centre. Does that mean that there is yet something else wrong with my landy? I took it be normal and remember not to put things like lipsovle and chocolate there!

Check the heatshield between the tunnel and the box. May have displaced or perrished.
Have a similar problem after LR fitted a new box to my Disco and they have quoted on an upgraded heat shield.
