Hiya chaps,

So got a disco mk 1 1997 v8

Was driving down the a12 a few dats a go when all of a sudden at about 65 there was an almighty resistance from the car somewhere from the front which made the Landy want the veer left! A horrible grinding metallic sound and I slowed right down to around 50! This only lasted a few seconds then the car was rolling free again?? Pulled over and had a look, nothing to see! Carefully finished off my journey to woodford all the while with a horrible grinding noise from the front of the car coming and going all the time. So at the time it felt like one of the wheels wanted to lock up!

Anyway go to woodford. Have now had both wheel bearings off each side on the front. No signs of damaged discolour to the greas etc no excessive play.

Was advised to drain diff oil to check for metal fillings so I did but oil looked good! Drive the car again today for a bit and the noise is now intermittent although I didn't drive it long enough for much to get hot etc.

Only other thing worth mentioning is a while back it did seem that while reversing something ground and sounded unhappy. It's only ever done that once.

Are there any simple checks I can do?

Any advice please?
