I noticed my horn was not working yesterday on my freelander mk1 so today i thought i'd take a look, but still not found the problem.

I unpluged the connectors on each horn then tested with a multimeter to see if there was 12 volts with the horn buttons pressed nothing on either plug, i tested the fuse and it was ok, while the fuse was out i tested the fuse clip/terminal to see if there was a voltage going to the fuse it was giving a reading of 14.4volts with the engine running.

Is there anything else i can test do you think it could be the two horn buttons on the steering wheel, i've got voltage going to the fuse but it's not getting to the horn, as anyone had the same problem.

There's a relay in the engine bay fusebox that may have failed
Try locking the car with the bonnet/door open to get a misslock beep.

I left the bonnet open then locked the car, i got a beep from the horn, does this mean the relay is ok.

I've located the horn relay in the fuse box how do i test it to see if it's failed.

If you need to use it just stick your head out of window and shout "BEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!"

that of course is only possible if the windows are working

Much.

Do the horns themselves work?

The horns work i've tested them with a battery.

I've replaced r6 the horn relay but still does not work.

What's the procedure for taking the steering wheel apart it must be the horn buttons or loose connection, it must be something under there, what colour are the horn wires going to the wheel.

Is it possible to bridge the wires and by pass the two buttons with a new switch, do they test the horn on the mot.

This may sound strange but have you changed the radio?

The horn and clock are linked through the radio some how?

This came to light when I changed my radio.

Strange but true, hope this helps.

Holy thread resurrection Batman but....having very recently bought a 2006 td4 I discovered, this morning, an interesting twist to what has already been discussed on here.
Wishing to alert an errant deer from my path I pushed the horn buttons...nothing! I then recalled an odd soft rubber plunger switch fixed where the cruise button normally resides (my 3 yr old grandson had pushed it a couple of days ago and a horn sounded!), so I pushed it now and the horn sounded.
Now...here's the rub...I then pushed the steering wheel horn buttons, the horn sounded????? A mile up the road I pushed the steering wheel horn buttons again = no sound, I pushed the soft plunger switch = horn sounded, followed by my operating the wheel buttons = horn sounded, mile later = no sound.
The radio/CD is the Land rover original which works perfectly so I'm assuming there must have been a fault with original horn switching/wiring in the steering column, I have a couple of questions however which I'm hoping you might be able to shed some light on (please bear in mind I'm a numpty when it comes to wiring)...
1) is the plunger horn switch (and its location) ok to pass an mot? I'll need to re-fix it to the dash,
2) I'd like to swap the radio for a Sony bluetooth jobbie..do you think it will work seeing as the horn steering operation seems to have been by-passed?

Sorry it's long winded
Thanks
