I've recently been given a military canvas for what I’m told is for a series. I have had a canvas before however not on the current Landy it was really tired so I got shot of it and kept the hood sticks.

Now I have been given a new hood I got it home and unfolded it to see at the front part that goes to the windscreen the new hood has a rope inside the canvas and no holes. The old one hooked onto the screen. Is this a military thing?

You need a front plate that fixes to the top of the screen, then the rope is held on by metal spikes.

I have the part that goes to the screen with the spikes and the tilt i had, had a webbing stitched into the canvas with holes in for the spikes, but the military canvas doesn't have the holes for the spikes to go through. It has a rope inside the canvas. Looks as though it should go into something like a caravan awning would, but bigger.

So i suppose my question should be are there 2 different types of mounting for the windscreen for civ and military, or from series to 90. It could well be a 90 tilt?

Sounds like you have a 90/110 canvas. This has a thick rope like insert in the front which is clamped by a springloaded plate, totally different to the series. To be certain, check if there are three webbing straps with u-shaped rings on the end on either side above where the door would be: these hook into plastic hooks on the 90 hoodstick set.

Thanks Konrad96 i'll check when i get to the Landy.

Anyone have laying around or know where i could source a 90 front plate that i could modify to fit my 2a?

My series 3 SWB went for a total rebuild and to cut a long story short I got shafted and the hoodsticks are now missing..never to be seen again. Have the canvas tilt still. I've been told the sticks are fairly hard to come by at a reasonable price. Does anyone else have any experience/advice of acquiring hood sticks?

Nice thread hijack and revival there Leonard!

Is it the full hood you need sticks for or just the rear tub as i have a set of sticks for a truckcab...

I had a truck cab set and supplemented them to full tilt by going to Oak Tree Garage , Wheathampstead, Herts. They sold me the extra stick and spacers, the cantirail for the windscreen top, the doortop pieces and the door side uprights (all second hand but good nick), and a brand new full 109 military canvas. Can`t remember how much it all was but it was reasonable
The parts there are`nt exactly what you`d call neatly stacked on shelves but its an amazing place
