Hi all, just a question about homemade bumpers. how do you fair with insurance ? do you need to tell them , not performance enhancing???

thanks andy

Any modification from a vehicles standard spec, insurances companies would like to know about it that's why they ask.

when I put mine on I told them it was a heavy duty bumper, non standard and non landrover OEM. They then asked if I wanted the cost of the upgrade covered in the event of a crash and I said no so it cost me nothing

As it will most likely be made of metal, it will be far more dangerous to a pedestrian in a crash so if the insurance company isn't informed not only will you not receive a payout and will get your insurance invalidated, you could face criminal charges.

Just tell them and be safe.

As drevil says. I went with AF and they sent a sheet asking for details of all upgrades, which I duly filled in along with a couple I since fitted (already had them ready to put on). Result was as far as I could tell no change to insurance.

I simply said my bumper was a Heavy Duty winch bumper, not standard Landrover.

and here's me expecting to see some inspiration photo's from other peoples home made bumpers - especially rear ones.....

same here.

but to keep with the thread. I have heard about mods to older landrovers actually bringing the daylight robbery down due to it being 'cared for' and not just being a chelsea tractor school run vehicle
