Usual story by the sounds of it! I have just discovered a fifty pence piece sized rust hole in the corner of the footwell on both sides of my newly acquired 1975 Series 3. What panels do I need to replace the old ones or is this a welding job?

I was planning on putting two new foot wells in my series 2 in order to get rid of the unsightly bodge jobs the previous owner done.
I was planning on having them welded in but a few people i have spoken to lately say just to bolt them or pop rivet them in and finish with a bit of seam sealer. Has anyone used this method?
 
i was thinking about it, but i stuck to welding them in..if yer rivet them in make sure you use enough rivets of the right size otherwise it will leak.

i don't think bolting them in is a good idea due the number needed to ensure a water tight fit. yeah you could use sealer but it will work loose at a later date.
 
either method will do. but welding is the best.
riveting is ok if there is no decent/cheap welder nearby.

put sealer in the gap before the rivets, and afterwards. underseal/coat then color topcoat. jobs a good un.
 
Question
Does the drivers side replacement foot well extend up to and include the mounting for the stearing?
If so would bolting / pot riviting be ok with the MOT man?

finishes just above the pedal box !;)
 
now see, thats wur yer wrong!! am as daft as they come and i am fully aware of it..so i don't need you nor anyone else to point how insane i am. i even got a certificate from the hospital on my release... have you??
 
Oh dear the lobotomy you had went wrong , and the medical profession fobbed you off , with piece of paper and sent you off to France , in the folorn hope you might recover, eating a protien rich diet of frogs legs snails, washed down with red wine.
