Landy in question is an 02 TD5 90.

Had my clutch changed last week and the clutch plate was rusty as all hell! Despite being 10k/3 years old and minimal water crossings, 1 or 2 i think.

Trying to find how the water got in, found this small hole, what is it? Also whats the plug next to it for?

The plug looks like some sort of oil drain or an inspection hole, for instance if something in there has a timing mark on it.

The disco 2 td5 has holes in the bell housing where it joins to the sump. Any water ingress should drain out if it's at the bottom. Was it just a bit a bit of surface rust? My fly wheel had some rusty water marks on there. But nothing too major

Pretty sure my 2 ain't got that hole but it's peeing down so can't be bothered checking, the other is the wading plug I think

My puma has that hole. I think it's an escape route for any oil that gets past the crank & gear box seals, stops oil build up which would otherwise gubber up the clutch.
